Our Dance Classes
We offer age-appropriate instruction for children throughout Lanham, Bowie, College Park, and Prince George’s County. Our instructors hold professional certifications and tailor each class to match developmental stages and skill levels.
Ballet Ages 6-18
Ballet forms the foundation for all dance styles. Our ballet program follows established curriculum standards, teaching proper body alignment, turnout, and classical technique. Students progress through levels from beginner to advanced, learning combinations at the barre, in center work, and across the floor.
Pointe Invitation Only
Our competitive pointe program is available only to students who demonstrate adequate ankle strength, proper technique, and at least two years of consistent ballet training. This careful approach prevents injury and prepares students for success in dancing en pointe.
Jazz Ages 6-18
Jazz dance classes combine technical precision with performance energy. Students learn isolations, turns, leaps, and combinations that develop musicality and stage presence. Classes include a thorough warm-up, center work, and choreographed routines.
“My daughter has attended Dancemakers for almost 10 years, and the sisterhood, technique, and opportunity she has received since being there is amazing. This studio is exceptional in pushing our girls to present their very best while offering them dance skills, social skills, and life lessons that they will carry with them always.” – Angela G.
Hip Hop All Ages
Our hip-hop classes teach urban dance fundamentals, including popping, locking, and breaking. Students learn choreography to current music while developing freestyle skills and personal style. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching to prevent injury.
Lyrical and Contemporary Ages 6-18
Lyrical dance blends ballet technique with emotional storytelling. Students learn to interpret lyrics and music through movement, developing both technical control and artistic expression. Classes focus on fluidity, extension, and connecting movement to musical phrasing.
Tap Ages 6-18
Tap dancing develops rhythm and musicality through sound. Students learn traditional tap technique and terminology, progressing from basic steps to complex rhythmic patterns. Our instructors teach both Broadway-style and rhythm tap approaches.
Kinderdanz Ages 3-5
Our Kinderdanz program introduces preschoolers to dance through imaginative play and age-appropriate exercises. Classes run 30-45 minutes—the optimal length for young attention spans—and teach basic positions, simple combinations, and classroom behavior.
Totz Town Ages 18 Months to 2 Years
Totz Town welcomes our youngest movers with parent-participation classes. Caregivers join their toddlers for movement activities that build motor skills, spatial awareness, and social interaction. Our Tumble Tots program introduces basic tumbling in a safe, padded environment.
“Both of my daughters have been enrolled in Dance Makers for a few years now in different classes. The entire staff is super warm, welcoming, and friendly. The instructors are very nurturing to all of the kids and encourage them to do their absolute best.” – Janel H.
